My Roommates

I decided to go through a local college to find housing and opted for university graduate apartments. The apartment I was assigned to is actually pretty nice ...we have an awesome view of LA and the mountains, plus a kitchen, patio and a spacious living room. The place is pretty plain at this point, but as the summer goes on, I think we will decorate a bit more with posters and fill our closets with junk from L.A. shopping trips. I was randomly assigned two roommates. Both of them are from outside the United States. The first is Louise, from Paris. She is here to improve her English and sometimes we can’t understand each other but most of the time we can. When all else fails, we use a lot of gestures to get things across. I am starting to wish I had paid more attention in that French class freshman year! Louise is smiley and chic, we laugh a lot. Her style is simple and elegant. She always keeps a ton of yummy pastries and French delicacies around. She also eats kosher, so I am learning a lot from her.

My other roommate Hyeyun is from Korea. Her English is pretty strong and her style is very simple. She doesn’t like makeup or gaudy clothing and she comes off as a bit shy. She must think I am an absolute lunatic. The biggest difference she cited between Koreans and Americans is that in the U.S. it is a good thing to stand out and in Korea it is admirable to fit in. Of course you are going to seem shy in an American culture if that's what you are used to. She is slowly coming out of her shell. I ask her all kinds of outrageous questions and she always answers them honestly and just laughs at me. Hopefully I am not offending her. After work we usually sit around and chat.  We are all getting along just fine -- thank goodness.

My freshmen year i was at the University of South Alabama and my roommate was Mike, a guy i graduated high school with and played football with.He and i got along pretty good he is a lot shorter then me ..so i placed all my food like" Oreos" in the top cabinet and would push them all the way to the back.He never saw them.. so that worked out good.Things went good until the day he decides he wanted us to have a pet in the room.He brings in this rabbit.People this was no ordinary rabbit. It was huge looked like a baby Kangaroo to me and the thing took a liking to me.. all ways wanting to sleep with me.So i would put it in the cage and all night long I'd hear it tapping the dang water bottle .. It drop me up a wall.. So one day while Mike was in class some how the door was left open and cotton tail wondered on to greener pasture's... either that or the guys always cooking rice next door to us had rice and rabbit one night ... Not really sure..

well my first year at college i lived with my aunt because it was free and i could save money up...i love my aunt shes a very amazing person! then i moved in with one of my best friends now...but then i had only known her for about 5 months we started working at the same job same met through that...and she was so much fun! and 21 so she could get me things..hehee when it came time to move she wanted to move closer to her campus and since i had finished with school it didnt really bother me...the appt she wanted though was too small for all of my things, i need a big closet and a big living room...so i was in search for a new roomie. i decided to live with a guy friend of mine and my boyfriend at the time. BAD idea!!! my friend had no car and niether did my bf they wanted me to cart them around all the time and take them to and from work. well when i got into an accident and didnt have a car my friend decided to move out with no warning and not pay rent and leave me hanging...then my bf decided to move back home and i had to find out from a friend of ours that he was moving within 18 days! we tried the whole long distance thing earlier and he had recently done some dirty things so i broke up with him. so here i was paying rent for a 3 bedroom townhouse...i was looking for roomies for awhile and found one somewhat promising...turned out he wasnt and has wrote me 2 bad checks/he ate my food/never did dishes/never cleaned clothes/he smoked stuff-in the house!/and he lied A LOT!! i also got another roomie to fill the other room...he had a finance thatd be moving in to...yeah i didnt find out until after they moved in that he was 18 and she 17! wow what an expirence...i recently moved out beg. of july and moved in with a gal that i had met a lil while back. she has turned out to be AMAZING! i can finally decorate the appt the way i want to!! we have the same taste and r making a superhero/villian theme in the living with old comics and posters, and the kitchen is 50's style we have a chrome table, records hangin up, and just got an old elvis clock that moves his hips when the hr changes..lol so ive had some good and bad situations...ive learned to not live with a bf, or random people...

My roommate in my freshman year moved out within the first few weeks of the semester. The reason that she gave for moving out was that "We just don't have anything in common really." I was kind of glad that she left, though, because just about every night, she'd be on the phone with her boyfriend for at least an hour, and she'd always say some mushy-gushy stuff at the end of her convos that def got annoying after having heard it numerous times. We were almost never in the room at the same time as one another except at night. I never talked to her for the rest of the year after she had moved out. We were not in the same program/field, considering that I'm majoring in theatre and she was doing Japanese. There were a few times that I tried to call her when we were still roommates. However, each time I did, she never picked up, so I always had to leave voicemail messages. One time in particular, I was not feeling well, so I called her to let her know that I was going to bed early because of the fact that I wasn't feeling well (I had vomitted a few hours earlier). Surprise, surprise. I got her voicemail yet again. So I had to leave a message letting her know all this. I also called my next door neighbor (who's really nice, btw) to ask her if she could turn the light out for me. I heard her in the hallway saying, "Hey, whose number is this?" because it was my first time of calling her. I told her it was me. So my roommate eventually got back in for the night, and she said that had gotten my message, so she tried to open the door as quietly as possible. She ended up heading out again, but she told our RA that I had thrown up earlier. This is perhaps the best part of the story. Campus Security came knocking on my door at 11pm to make sure I was doing okay. The door was locked because I had closed it and wanted to get some shuteye. They came in anyway. And of course they flipped the lights on, thus making it impossible for me to sleep. I basically had to wake up to let them know I was doing okay. They asked me if I would be okay or something to the likes of that, and I responded by saying, "I guess." One of the medical people or one of the officers said, "No, you have to say either yes or no." So I went ahead and said yes so I could try to get some sleep. They finally left, satisfied that I would do okay on my own without my roommate in the room. So yeah. I'm def hoping that my roommate this year will be much better.

I don't have any stories yet, this will be my first year with a roommate, but i can tell u my friends story. Its really outrageous. The first day she met her roommate the girl informed her that she had an arranged marriage the following year. If she didn't go through with it her parents would not pay 4 her college. So, her roommate told her until she had 2 marry this man she'd bring home a diff guy every night. (she used more graphic language but ill keep it at that ) So every night for a month my friend had 2 watch her roommate bring in diff guys every night. Finally she had 2 switch rooms.....

The next year I got to meet my current best friend, we hit it off and now we do almost everything together. I was strange at first, but I got use to living with someone else.

When I moved into my dorms my freshman year. I was more than just a fish out of water. I was a stranger. The three guys that I roomed with had all been roommates for two years prior to that year. They just kinda shunned me for the first couple of weeks and then I barely talked to them for the rest of the year.
