Went to nephew's wedding in Jamaica-- hot weather but a lovely ceremony. Went to Florida to see hubby's family-- hot weather but good to see the siblings. Went to Epcot and Universal Studios-- rainy weather but lots of fun attractions like Terminator and Soarin'. Summer is quickly winding down. Soon it's school time and back to work.

I am trying to get into a summer mode. I traveled to Jamaica for my nephew's wedding, and next week I'm off to Florida to visit family. Bring on the sunshine, lazy afternoon lunches with friends, and the sound of waves on the beach.

Looking out at ice mounds along Lake Erie, gray skies, and endless snow falling. Waiting patiently for glimpses of spring-- sunshine, tiny green leaf buds, and morning bird song. I am SO ready for a sunny vacation where it's all about clear, blue water, sand, and tall cool drinks!

I’m incredibly proud of my daughter, WhiteCup. I know that ALL the Virtual Rush contestants’ parents must feel the same way about their daughters and sons. It’s not the winning or losing, it’s the journey. I can say this honestly because I’ve watched WhiteCup work toward many goals in her life. Yes, she’s won art awards, placed in singing competitions, and danced front row center. But, she’s also had her share, and then some, of disappointments. Although WhiteCup’s journey to this moment began a long, long time ago, this competition has given her many new opportunities for growth. As all the contestants have learned, participating in Virtual Rush required creativity, perseverance, and character. Being up against such talented folks during the weekly challenges WhiteCup had to draw on all her creative talents. Many times WhiteCup gave up other important activities—including time with friends and family—to put in the time she needed to participate fully in the Virtual Rush competition. And finally, WhiteCup had to work through all the emotional ups and downs that come with a long-term competition such as this. WhiteCup worked very hard to win this contest, but ultimately she has YOU to thank for her win. Some of you voted for WhiteCup every now and then when you remembered to log on, some split your votes because there were so many great folks participating, and some faithfully voted for WhiteCup three times each day. I want to thank you all-- friends and family, Ohio State University, Delta Gamma, Maple staff, and the entire Virtual Rush online community. It’s been a cliff-hanger. Any one of these amazing, talented contestants could have won in such a close race. Your vote, truly, made all the difference! Thank you! :-)

I hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend and have time for what's important to you. Me...? Check out some of my favorite pictures from Whitecup's childhood. As a little girl she was always on the go, she enjoyed being with people, and she was curious about everything. She laughed a lot, sang fearlessly, and danced with conviction. She loved being in the middle of whatever was going on around her. Come to think of it, she hasn't changed all that much! :-) I hope you'll vote for Whitecup next week. Since she was old enough to find it on the map, it's been her dream to work and live in California. Your votes can make her dream could come true.
